Dr. Kenneth Briggs
A fifth-generation Californian with an extensive background in marine mammal and sea bird biology, Dr. Kenneth T. Briggs joined the staff of Danville Vet Hospital in 1996.
Before coming to Danville Vet Hospital, Dr. Briggs was managing veterinarian at Mid-Valley Veterinary Hospital in Vacaville, Calif. From 1993 to 1996; and was an associate veterinarian and manager at Animal Medical Center in Vacaville, Calif. from 1991 to 1993.
Dr. Briggs attended DeAnza Junior College in Cupertino, and, later, San Jose State College. He has an associate's degree in zoology, a master's degree in biological sciences, and a Ph.D. in biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Before becoming a vet, Dr. Briggs spent two decades as a teacher and researcher in the field of marine mammal and sea bird biology. He has been published extensively and has lectured internationally on the subject.
In 1987, Dr. Briggs enrolled at the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. He received his veterinary medicine degree in 1991. Dr. Briggs also completed a six-year residency in veterinary dentistry and now works in a referral capacity. He is also certified to operate on Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) cases.
Dr. Briggs began an intensive study of veterinary dentistry in 1997 under the mentorship of Dr. Tom Mulligan, a founding Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. Dr. Briggs has logged thousands of procedures in the areas of small animal dentistry and orofacial surgery. In order to broaden the awareness and understanding of referring veterinarians and their staffs, Dr. Briggs has developed a series of in-hospital training sessions on various dentistry subjects.
Dr. Briggs grew up in San Mateo and can trace his family's roots to the years before the California Gold Rush. Dr. Briggs has two cats—Maggie, a happy amputee cat, and Big Fat Baby Al, an orange tabby cat with a penchant for eating.
In his spare time, Dr. Briggs is an accomplished martial artist with a black belt in Aikido. He also enjoys skiing, backpacking, fly fishing, golf, ballroom dancing and gardening.
